چکیده

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is present in 0.8% of all live births and is therefore one of the most common congenital malformations (Fyler et al., 1980). The spectrum of congenital heart defects is significantly higher in fetuses than in live born infants because of their reduced viability (Tennstedt et al., 1999). The prognosis of congenital heart disease can be poor; almost one third to one half of congenital heart defects are severe and lethal unless an intervention is done early (Hoffman & Kaplan, 2002). Prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease results in referral of mothers with affe1cted fetuses to equipped centers where all facilities for neonatal cardiac care are available. The diagnosis of a congenital heart disease in a fetus should also prompt evaluation for genetic syndromes and associated non cardiac malformations (Cohen, 2001). Improvements in diagnosis and treatment have lead to more patients surviving to adulthood (Carvalho et al., 2002).

DNA Damages on Blood Cells After Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction: Along with the increased use of cardiac imaging at clinics there is increased attention to the potential risks related to the methods used like magnetic resonance (MR) and it cannot be ruled out that MR can alter DNA structure. The aim of this review is to assess the impact of routine cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) scanning on DNA damages in human T lymphocytes....

The Correlation between Left and Right Ventricular Ejection Fractions in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease, Documented by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction: The correlation between right and left ventricular ejection fractions (RVEF and LVEF, respectively) has been studied in only a small number of patients with a marked decrease in RVEF and LVEF. The aim of the present study was to compare LVEF and RVEF in patients with ischemic heart disease. RVEF and LVEF were measured by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging. Materials a...

Dynamic fetal cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging using Doppler ultrasound gating

BACKGROUND Fetal cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging may provide a valuable adjunct to fetal echocardiography in the evaluation of congenital cardiovascular pathologies. However, dynamic fetal CMR is difficult due to the lack of direct in-utero cardiac gating. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a newly developed Doppler ultrasound (DUS) device in humans fo...

Preliminary experience with cardiovascular magnetic resonance in evaluation of fetal cardiovascular anomalies

BACKGROUND The cardiovascular system is the part of the fetal anatomy that most frequently suffers from congenital pathology. This study shows our preliminary experience with fetal cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) to evaluate congenital cardiovascular abnormalities. METHODS Between January 2006 and June 2011, Prenatal routine obstetric ultrasound (US), echocardiography and CMR data fro...

Fetal circulation in left-sided congenital heart disease measured by cardiovascular magnetic resonance: a case–control study

BACKGROUND The distribution of blood flow in fetuses with congenital heart disease (CHD) is likely to influence fetal growth, organ development, and postnatal outcome, but has previously been difficult to study. We present the first measurements of the distribution of the fetal circulation in left-sided CHD made using phase contrast cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). METHODS Twenty-two fetuses...

Motion compensated cine CMR of the fetal heart using radial undersampling and compressed sensing

BACKGROUND To develop and evaluate a reconstruction framework for high resolution time-resolved CMR of the fetal heart in the presence of motion. METHODS Data were acquired using a golden angle radial trajectory in seven fetal subjects and reconstructed as real-time images to detect fetal movement. Data acquired during through-plane motion were discarded whereas in-plane motion was corrected....
